The beginners guide to Sorare MLB

Our beginner's guide explains how to play Sorare MLB step-by-step and shows you its scoring matrix.

How to get Started on Sorare MLB

Upon signing up for Sorare MLB, you’ll have the option of choosing your first Common card from a selection of top baseball players.

Your collection will be started with a random selection of 12 Common cards after you’ve selected your star player

There will be the same distribution of Common cards for everyone this will allow you to field a team straight away.

You will get:

  • 4 Starting Pitchers
  • 2 Relief Pitchers
  • 2 Corner Infielders
  • 2 Middle Infielders
  • 2 Outfielders

Card scarcity

Sorare MLB offers five different types of NFT cards, each with a different scarcity value that unlocks different tournaments.

  • Common unlimited Grey
  • Limited 5,000 Yellow (per year)
  • Rare 1,000 Red (per year)
  • Super Rare 100 Blue (per year)
  • Unique 1 Black (per year)

Using blockchain technology, Sorare creates a unique digital contract to validate each player card and prevent it from being duplicated. Whilst you can not physically touch your cards they are truly yours to keep. Their existence is not dependent on the Sorare platform. Cards can be removed, stored in a digital wallet, or even sold on eBay, just like any other collectible.

Despite the fact that you cannot buy, sell, or trade the Common cards you receive when you begin your collection, you can sell or trade the other scarcities.

What’s on the cards

Although Sorare MLB cards differ according to scarcity, there are a few characteristics that make them recognisable as a Sorare card.

  • Player photo
  • Team logo
  • Player name
  • Player position
  • Card season
  • Serial Number

Cards are assigned serial numbers based on their scarcity, but two serial numbers get special design treatment to make them feel more special and collectible:

  • Serial #1
  • ‘Jersey Match’ – the serial number that matches the number the player wears on their jersey

Quick guide on how to play Sorare MLB

Lineup

There are seven cards in a Sorare MLB Lineup. The following positions need to be filled to begin your gameweek:

  • 1 Starting Pitcher
  • 1 Relief Pitcher
  • 1 Corner Infielder (which can be a 1B, 3B or DH)
  • 1 Middle Infielder (which can be a 2B, SS or C)
  • 1 Outfielder
  • 1 Extra Hitter (this can be any hitter)
  • 1 Flex (this can be any player)

Each card can only be used once per Game Week, and each player can only appear in the same lineup once. For your lineup to be valid, you must have at least two MLB teams represented.

What is a Sorare Game Week

Each ‘Game Week’ runs for 3-4 days in Sorare MLB’s bi-weekly tournament schedule.

  • Monday-Thursday
  • Friday-Sunday

Each Game Week is numbered sequentially starting from the launch of Sorare MLB in July 2022.

Game Weeks will start 10 minutes before the first game in that window. As a result, if there is a daygame on a Monday starting at 4:10pm ET, lineups will lock at 4:00pm ET and cannot be changed thereafter.

The last game of each Game Week will conclude the week. Then, all scoring will be finalized and rewards will be distributed.

If a game that was originally scheduled to take place within a Game Week is postponed to a date outside the range of the Game Week, statistics for that game will not count. In the event that a game is suspended, statistics up until the suspension will be included, but statistics after the suspension will only be included if they fall within the original Game Week period.

Sorare MLB Tournaments

A total of seven core tournaments will be offered in Season One of Sorare MLB.

In the Common All Star tournament, you’ll have the opportunity to compete when the game opens on July 19.

As of August, Sorare intends to open more tournaments across other card scarcities

  • Limited All Star
  • Limited Pro
  • Rare All Star
  • Rare Pro
  • Super Rare All Star
  • Unique All Star

As you compete in ‘All Star’ tournaments, you’ll be able to win more cards from that scarcity to build your collection and strengthen your team.

‘Pro’ tournaments offer fewer rewards, but you can earn cards with higher scarcities and progress to more tournaments.

Eligibility

  • The Common All Star tournament is completely free to play – only Common cards can be used.
  • Your team needs seven Limited cards to compete in Limited tournaments.
  • Rare tournaments require at least four Rare cards, but you can add up to three Limited cards as well.
  • In Super Rare tournaments, you’ll need at least three Super Rare cards, but you can use up to four Rare cards.
  • You can use up to five Super Rare cards in Unique tournaments, but you need at least two Unique cards.

How to Compose Your Sorare MLB Team

As soon as you have found a tournament that you would like to take part in, you can start to put together your team.

Each position will display the players you have available to fill it. The players will be sorted by scarcity (for example, your rare cards will appear first in a Rare tournament), and then by their average Sorare Points per game. As a result, you will be able to see a quick snapshot of your roster and get an idea of who is the best to play on your team.

Following Your Lineups

Your team’s performance can be tracked in real time once the gameweek begins.

A snapshot of MLB games your players are playing can be seen on the Live tab in the Lobby section of your preferred browser, along with how each player is scoring points, and how you are doing on the leaderboard for all of the tournaments you’ve entered.
